Acrylics on mango log

1995, Diani Beach, Kenya

2010, Nagoya, Japan

Samakimango-SamakiSurf: a tropical fish, painted on a mango log that was serendipitously washed ashore by the gentle tide on a beach in Kenya. Years later, this image was selected for transformation into a waterproof sticker, designed specifically for surfboards, appealing to surfers and ocean enthusiasts alike. The sticker, now a representation of both art and adventure, finds itself proudly displayed on a surfboard that is currently riding the waves in front of the bustling city of Nagoya, Japan. This journey from the shores of Kenya to the surf culture of Japan illustrates the global interconnectedness of art, nature, and sport, as well as the ability of a simple image to inspire and evoke a sense of wanderlust and appreciation for the ocean's beauty across different cultures and continents.
